How Do Perfume Types and Concentrations Differ?

Perfumes are not just pleasant scents that add a personal touch; they are carefully crafted aromatic compositions that vary in type and concentration. These differences influence a fragrance’s longevity, projection, and how it develops on the skin.

At Assaf, we believe that understanding the differences between perfume types helps you choose the right fragrance for every occasion, season, and skin type—allowing you to enjoy a complete scent experience that lasts throughout the day.

What Is Perfume Concentration?

Perfume concentration refers to the percentage of aromatic oils blended with alcohol and fixatives in a fragrance. The scent may change or soften after application as it follows the structure of the fragrance pyramid (top, heart, and base notes).

However, concentration alone does not guarantee excellent performance. The composition, purity of ingredients, maturation period, filtration process, and even the quality of the bottle and spray mechanism all play an important role in the final fragrance experience.

That is why Assaf carefully selects premium fragrance ingredients and formulates them with precision to achieve the best possible longevity and projection.

Types of Perfume Concentrations

Extrait de Parfum (Perfume Extract)

This is the most concentrated form of fragrance, often containing up to 40% aromatic oils, with longevity that can last up to 24 hours.

Perfume extracts are composed of highly concentrated aromatic oils aged in alcohol, allowing the oils to blend harmoniously and fully develop their olfactory potential. This makes them a luxurious choice for those who prefer strong and long-lasting fragrances.

Eau de Parfum (EDP)

Eau de Parfum sits just below perfume extract in terms of concentration. It typically contains around 20% aromatic oils and can last up to about 7 hours.

EDP fragrances are created using a balanced blend of aromatic oils, fragrance compounds, and alcohol, providing an ideal balance between strength and elegance.

Eau de Toilette (EDT)

Eau de Toilette usually contains 5% to 15% aromatic oils, with a longevity of approximately 5 to 6 hours.

This lower concentration creates a lighter, fresher scent profile, making it a great option for daily wear or warmer climates.

Eau de Cologne (EDC)

Eau de Cologne typically contains 2% to 6% aromatic oils, making it lighter than the previous categories.

It offers a refreshing and subtle scent, often used as a body splash or a daytime fragrance for a quick boost of freshness.

Body Mist

Body mists contain less than 1% aromatic oils, making them the lightest and least long-lasting fragrance option. As a result, they often need to be reapplied throughout the day.

They are designed to provide a gentle, refreshing scent that is ideal for frequent use.

Choosing the Right Fragrance Concentration

Selecting the right concentration depends on several factors, including the occasion, weather, and your skin type.

At Assaf, we strive to provide a diverse fragrance experience that suits different tastes, whether you are looking for a powerful scent that lasts for hours or a light and refreshing fragrance for daily use.
